At St. Luke's, lung cancer patients have one point of contact for all of their concerns and questions. Lisa Bray, RN, BSN, OCN, the lung cancer program coordinator, is a registered nurse with experience caring for lung cancer patients. She serves as a patient advocate to help guide you through the diagnosis and treatment process. Lisa also helps ensure that patients and their families have easy access to educational and emotional support programs and services. Multidisciplinary approach to lung cancer treatmentFor each lung cancer patient, St. Luke's brings together a team of physicians from various medical disciplines – oncology, radiology, pathology, thoracic surgery and radiation oncology – to share knowledge, experience and expertise. The lung cancer team holds bi-weekly case conferences to discuss the best treatments for individual patients. One of the key advantages of St. Luke's program is that patients have access to the highest level of acute tertiary care, including the latest technologies and techniques, but can receive additional treatments such as radiation therapy and chemotherapy at a Vince Lombardi Cancer Clinic closer to home. In fact, there are more than a dozen Vince Lombardi Cancer Clinics in eastern Wisconsin, stretching from Green Bay to Kenosha. The professionals at St. Luke's Cancer Counseling Center understand that the medical aspect of cancer is only part of the impact. While medical expertise is essential, our counselors realize that professional support to help you cope with the emotional aspect is invaluable as well. Through a variety of screenings, the Cancer Genetics Counseling Program can help you learn if you or a family member are at high risk of developing cancer. By taking into consideration personal and family medical histories, a physician can identify patients and their families who would benefit from meeting with a genetic counselor for a hereditary cancer risk assessment.
